Iwobi ruled out for weeks with hamstring injury

Nigerian international, Alex Iwobi has been ruled out of Everton’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Goodison Park on Saturday due to a hamstring injury.

Iwobi picked up the hamstring injury during Everton’s 4-0 thrashing in the hands of Aston Villa in their Premier League encounter, which took place at Villa Park last Sunday.

He was thereafter substituted in the second half, and Everton boss, Sean Dyche admitted Iwobi was likely to be on the sidelines for a period depending on the grade of the tear.

Dyche finally confirmed during his pre-match press conference on Thursday that the Super Eagles winger will be missing in competitive football action for a few weeks due to the problem.

“Alex Iwobi will be out for a ‘few weeks’ with a hamstring injury,” the Toffees manager said with Dyche not particularly confident of Iwobi’s immediate return.

What this means is that Iwobi might also get to miss Nigeria’s final 2024 African Cup of Nations qualification match against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo on September 10, 2023.

Iwobi has so far made 140 overall appearances in the colours of Everton since joining for a fee of £30 million from Arsenal in the summer of 2019.

The Nigerian has scored nine goals and made a total of 16 assists for the Merseyside club in all competitions.
